Depth Psychology

Depth Psychology is the practice of integrating the parts of us that we are not conscious of.

These parts collectively are called "the unconscious".

Uncovering the unconscious often will bring up parts of us that we do not agree with, parts that we deny exist or parts that go against what we believe in.

Integrating these parts in therapy is called "Shadow Work".

Until we integrate the shadow, our deepest problems will continue to elude us, no matter how spiritual we are.

Internal Family Systems or "Parts Work"

When we are in a state of integration, our different parts work together, helping each other out like how different organs in our body serve different functions, all yielding a beneficial result for our physical body. The heart pumps blood, the stomach breaks down food and the lungs extract oxygen from the air. In your unconscious there are also beings or "parts" that serve different functions for you mentally or emotionally. These parts often disagree with each other and can waste your time, energy and resources fighting internal battles.

The goal of parts work is to help all the different parts of you work together, rather than against each other. As an analogy; our planet may be a better place to live if the parts or nations worked together rather than against each other.

Dream Tending
The parts of us that are asking to be integrated will often show up in dreams while we sleep.

For those who remember their dreams or even keep a dream journal, Depth Psychology sessions will often include a practice known as dream tending.

Dream tending is a therapeutic process of interacting with dream figures and images while in the waking state. No drugs or hallucinogens are needed, just a simple meditation that Grant will guide you in during the session.

Dream figures, characters and images are all parts of the unconscious that when interacted with have a message for us to hear. The approach is different than classic psychoanalysis where a dry interpretation is projected onto the dream image.

In dream tending the living beings who exist in our dreams are recognized for also existing during the waking hours and they are the ones who convey whatever meaning they have in store for us, not the other way around.
